Trademark Registration

Protect Your Brand andBusiness

How the Registration Process Works

1. Availability Check (Preliminary Search): We search for existing or similar trademarks beforehand to avoid objections or rejections.
2. Choosing the Right Level of Protection:
• National trademark (Greece)
• European trademark (EUIPO)
• International registration (via WIPO)
3. Filing the Application: We prepare and file the application with clear categorization of products/services (following the Nice Classification).
4. Evaluation — Objections — Opposition: The relevant authority reviews the mark. If prior rights or grounds for refusal exist, objections may be filed. We provide legal support to defend or overcome these.
5. Decision Issuance &  Publication: If approved, the registration decision is issued and the trademark is publishedin the corresponding registry.
6. Duration & Renewal: Protection lasts for 10 years and can be renewed indefinitely every decade.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

•  Using descriptive terms without distinctive character
•  Failing to check for existing trademarks
•  Choosing wrong class/category of goods or services
•  Delaying renewal, risking loss of protection
•  Registering only on a national level while operating in multiple markets

Why is it Important to Register Your Trademark?

Many entrepreneurs use a name or logo without securing legal protection. This leaves them vulnerably exposed to:
• copying or imitation by competitors
• malicious misuse of their reputation by others
• legal disputes if a prior trademark exists
By registering your trademark, you obtain exclusive rights for the products or
services it covers, preventing any third party from using an identical or similar mark.

Our Support for You

  • Ideally before any public use. Early registration helps avoid legal risks and
ensures no one else trademarks it first.

  • • If you operate only in Greece, national registration suffices.
    • For broader presence in the EU, an EUIPO (European) trademark is advisable.
    • If you sell or serve beyond the EU, consider international registration via WIPO.

  • Protection lasts 10 years and can be renewed indefinitely every 10 years,
    provided renewal is timely.

  • Costs vary depending on:
    • Level of protection (national, European, international)
    • Number of classes/categories covered
    • Legal services involved (search, filing, monitoring)

  • Yes. You can register:
    • only the name (word mark),
    • only the logo (figurative mark),
    • or as a combination (composite mark).
Strategically, registering both separately is often beneficial.

  • If your trademark is registered, you can:
    • send a cease & desist notice
    • file an opposition or appeal (if it’s a new application)
    • pursue legal action for infringement

  • Yes. If a mark is not used within 5 years after registration, or ceases to be used, third parties can request its cancellation for non-use.

  • Absolutely. Trademarks can be:
    • sold or assigned
    • licensed for use
    • used in franchising agreements

  • It is the international system that divides trademarks into 45 classes (34 for goods, 11 for services). Correct class selection is critical for full protection.

  • If the change is substantial, yes, a new registration is required. Minor adjustments may not, but each case should be evaluated individually.
